For the second year in a row, AARP designated the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association as a recipient of its “Best Employers for Workers over 50.” BCBSA moved up significantly in the rankings – from 46th place in 2007 to 10th place in 2008. BCBSA was one of only 50 companies to be recognized for its best practices and policies that address the mature work force.

Currently, 37 percent of the BCBSA staff is over the age of 50, with 22 percent over 55. Through BCBSA's "Mature Employee Retention Program," the following resources and services are available to staff over the age of 50:

  • Tuition reimbursement for special interest classes (55+)
